Computer Courses

Our component for Computer Skills aims to empower people who work for community and grassroots organizations, familiarizing them with different IT subjects and thus improving the technical and financial administration of the institutions where they work. Through this component, we hope to best take advantage of the enormous range of possibilities and abilities that information technology offers to social organizations that work for local development and human rights.

With the educational courses in information technology, we make an effort to offer custom information technology courses according to the specific needs of the organizations and of civil society. This means that not only do we choose our courses based on the results of the Participatory Diagnosismentioned above, but we also adapt the contents of each course to be most useful and applicable to the work of participating NGOs and community groups.

In the six years that it has been running, this program empowered over 200 members of approximately 150 Guatemalan development and human rights institutions. Some of the imparted Information Technology Courses have been the following: 1) basic Microsoft Office; 2) advanced Microsoft Office; 3) Software for project management; 4) OpenProj. V.1.4 software; 5) online and social media; 6) Software for database creation; 7) Software for the creation of publicity materials; 8) Creation, administration, management, and updating of websites.

All of the in-person courses are held in the EntreMundos computer room, and each workshop follows a previously defined program and also offers instruction on additional topics, advice, and useful insights for the attendees; in addition, each workshop offers various practical exercises, takes into account participants’ suggestions, answers all of their questions, and gives a final exam to measure the learning of the participants in order to revisit any subjects that remain unclear. The online courses are held through a online platform, which allows to the participants to dialogue and interact directly with the instructor and the other participants.
