“Reception of Volunteers” is the term that encompasses all of our activities related to welcoming national and international volunteers, as well as our strategies for making the most of this valuable resource and maximizing their experience and work. Since 2001 we have implemented an important and successful Volunteer Program, which aims to connect the expressed needs of local organizations with the skills, competencies, and interests of national and international volunteers. EntreMundos facilitates the connection between local organizations that have concrete needs and volunteers that have specific abilities, a collaboration that allows both parties to grow and develop personally and professionally.On our webpage, we offer a free database in Spanish and English - Click here to access the VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DATABASE - for potential volunteers, with important information and details about the local organizations that are interested in receiving this type of support.The type of volunteer experience that EntreMundos offers and promotes comes with two different options:- Community Service Learning for Groups, which we have offered since 2010, and which is aimed at groups of volunteers (usually from universities) who want to carry out short-term volunteer work in Guatemala and at the same time learn about the culture, history, language, politics, and current events of the country. EntreMundos organizes the group’s travel and stay with host organization, requesting a donation that is shared with the local organizations with whom the international volunteers work.- The Internship Service, which began in 2011, aims to facilitate long-term (at least three months) collaboration between individual volunteers with specific skills and local organizations that need their work. The volunteers perform professional work within the interested organizations, offering a monthly donation of no more than US$ 100.00 which, as is the case in Group Volunteering, is divided between the beneficiary institution and EntreMundos, which takes care of recruitment, preparation and elaboration of all paperwork, support service, orientation, and follow-up for the internship.
Program for the Reception of Volunteers
- Category: For Organizations
Through our Volunteer Program, we currently support approximately 100 Guatemalan organizations. Our experience shows that volunteers can be a large help to these organizations when they are managed seriously, with planning, effectiveness, and efficiency. In order to optimize and systemize our 15 years of work in the field of reception and administration of volunteers, we have created a complete manual of BEST PRACTICES IN VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT: a useful and indispensable resource for organizations, both Guatemalan and foreign, that want to explore the world of volunteering. Said manual can be consulted and reproduced if EntreMundos (the author and copyright holder of the manual) is credited and the following information sections are included:
a) Establishment of volunteer positions;
b) Analysis of risks and creation of policies;
c) Recruitment, marketing, and communication stage;
d) Selection of potential volunteers;
e) Training and supervision of volunteers;
f) Motivation and recognition of volunteers;
g) Response to and mitigation of incidents; resolution of problems;
h) Maintain contact with volunteers.
